Le Sirenuse, Positano, Italy

Le Sirenuse is a hotel on the Amalfi Coast that lures its guests in much the same way as the Sirens of Greek mythology. Parthenhope, Leucosia, and Ligeia lured sailors to their deaths with their enchanting song. They tempted curious Odysseus with their melodious voices, lyre and flute but he escaped by having his sailors plug their ears with beeswax and tie him to the mast. When Jason and the Argonauts passed by their island, Orpheus, the greatest musician of the ancient world, prevented the crew from being lured by drowning out the Sirens’ voices when he played his music more beautifully than they. These winged ladies survive in the blue sea of archipelago Li Galli in the form of little islands. However, these days their sweet song comes from the charismatic Le Sirenuse. This distinguished, super-chic hotel in the heart of picturesque Positano has long held a special allure.
“It bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you’re there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone” (Positano by John Steinbeck)

“Le Sirenuse” was the first famous hotel I photographed ten years ago. Four years later I photographed the same hotel for my book “A Pocketful of Luxury Italian Hotels”.

Some of the photos and the text are part of my book A Pocketful of Luxury Italian Hotels

In Between Luxury Spaces

The idea of creating a blog first came to my mind a month ago, when I first read Varun Sharma’s blog “Inside Luxury Travel”. I realized that I had the same obsession and many luxury places (spaces) to share. I am a photographer and I have accompanied my photos for two books and many magazines with articles. Obviously I have the material, if not for a daily, definitely for a weekly diary. The title “In Between Luxury Spaces” came up from the title of my participation in Photo Biennale 2010, “In Between Spaces” where I exhibited photographs from luxury hotels in b/w.
